This fiscal year, we will continue to provide educational support to 13 schools in the Serengeti district of Mara State.
■I want to study but I can't!

In Mara State, primary schools have one teacher and one classroom for every 100 to 150 students. Students study without any textbooks. As a result, the rate of students moving on to secondary school is overwhelmingly lower than the national average.
■I want to go to school but I can't!

In addition to parents' low interest in education, the marriage age in Tanzania is still low, and some girls are not allowed to go to school because if they acquire too much knowledge, they will lose their husband.
■ Helping poachers puts lives at risk

There are still many children who cannot receive a proper education and are unable to achieve economic independence, so they turn to poaching to easily earn a living, sometimes putting their lives at risk. *Rhinoceroses are an endangered species due to poaching and other factors.
■ Not realizing the importance of nature and wildlife

Due to the lack of opportunities for interaction with the outside world, people have little awareness of the importance of nature and wildlife, and they are often guilty of poaching, littering, cutting down trees to build houses, and other actions that lead to the destruction of the natural environment.

■More than 1,000 students

There were over 1,000 students. As we were the first foreigners to see, some of the children ran away or started crying when we approached.
■ Classrooms with frequent damage

The classroom floor was bumpy, and the desks and chairs were also badly damaged. About six students were sitting crammed together at this long desk, studying.

■ Children holding textbooks

It was the first time the students had seen a textbook. Now that they had the textbook in their hands, they all started studying hard.
Beautifully maintained classrooms

The floor was repaired with our support. The desks and chairs were hand-made by the parents.

The 13 schools we support are using textbooks. There are nine types: math, English, Japanese, geography, history, science, civics, reading, and writing, with each book covering multiple grades. In Tanzania, textbooks are managed by the school and are taken out for classes, so not every student has their own copy.
*The above numbers are as of December 2020, and the number of students is increasing every year.

(1) Textbook support

Every year, he personally delivers textbooks to elementary schools and hands them over to the children (often resulting in children fighting over them).
(2) Atlas (World Map) Support

Even geography teachers rarely have access to atlases. In this photo, the geography teacher receiving the atlas was even more excited than the students.
(3) Notebook and pen support

Children line up to receive pens from their teachers. Consumables such as pens and notebooks are always in short supply.
(4) Support for crayons and drawing paper

It was the children's first time using crayons. In a drawing exchange held in 2012, the children used crayons to draw "their dreams."
(5) Soccer Ball Support

In many schools, cloth is rolled up like this and used as a ball.

Soccer balls are popular with both children and adults. If you bring one, a soccer tournament will start right away on the field.

(2) Repairing classrooms damaged by heavy rain

In 2021, heavy rains damaged the roof of Nyamburi Primary School. We are supporting its repair.
(3) Kindergarten roof installation

Construction of the kindergarten has been halted due to a lack of funds to install a roof, and weeds have begun to grow inside the walls.

The roof is now installed! The children who are looking forward to coming to the school have gathered.

(2) Activities recognized by Serengeti National Park

Our educational support activities have led to wildlife conservation, and the Serengeti National Park has recognized this and donated a school building to Nyamburi Primary School.
We met some graduates of Masebe Primary School by chance at a tent lodge in Serengeti National Park. Our conversation made them realize the importance of nature conservation and wilderness protection, and they told us that they are now involved in conservation activities.
